Comply with Laws and Regulations

TMT Law provides a full range of regulatory and public policy services. Over 100 countries now have their own data protection laws regulating the collection, use, disclosure, and security of personal information. The complex and sometimes conflicting obligations imposed by these laws can be challenging for companies seeking to comply with their privacy and data security obligations. Our lawyers are able to offer practical advice that helps our clients balance compliance with running a business in a cost-effective manner.

We advise on a broad range of privacy and data protection matters, including: privacy policies and procedures, information handling, security breaches, regulatory investigations, global compliance, cross-border data transfers, training programs, compliance audits, commercial transactions, website privacy policies, email and telemarketing regulation.

We also proactively advance our client’s positions in policy and regulatory proceedings and consultations held by government agencies, departments, ministries and parliamentary committees, both at the federal and local levels. Over the years we have represented clients in proceedings involving a broad scope of technology, media and telecommunications regulatory issues, including:

» Media and Telecommunications Regulation

We have represented major telecommunication service providers and technology companies in public consultations conducted by the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC), the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) and the UK’s Office of Communications (Ofcom).

» Intellectual Property Policy

We created and led the Industry Coalition on the EU Unified Patent Court and an industry working group to coordinate the EU tech industry’s lobbying efforts on copyright policy.

» Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Data Protection and Privacy Legislation

We provided advice on major legislative initiatives including AI regulation, data protection and privacy legislation, net neutrality and cybersecurity standards.

We offer interdisciplinary, industry-focused public policy services to advance the specialized needs of technology, media and telecommunication businesses, entrepreneurs, inventors, and investors in these converging sectors.
